The cathedral labyrinth is a miniature, wearable reproduction of a labyrinth found in churches the world over. Its true name is the Labyrinth of Chartres, so named because the original labyrinth, installed in the early 13th century, can be found in the Notre-Dame de Chartres cathedral.
Labyrinths, unlike mazes, are always a single path that leads to the center. Because of this, they are often used for meditation and prayer, as one can trace the labyrinth without thinking and always find their way to the center.
